Why is Desi Cow Ghee an Ayurvedic endorsed super-food?

The word Ghee has its origins from the Sanskrit word ‘Ghrita,’. Ayurveda, the advocate of holistic health has over centuries endorsed the medical and healing properties of Desi Cow Ghee. The method of making Ghee involves removal of the milk solids. This makes Ghee safe even for a lactose/casein intolerant person. Ayurvedic health science has traditionally considered ghee to be the healthiest source of edible fat.

The nutritional benefits of Desi Cow Ghee are myriad & work across age groups. Cow Ghee comprises of fat-soluble Vitamins A, D, E and K. It is a natural source of Omega 3 & Omega 9 fatty acids. These Vitamins & fatty acid together promote stronger bones, decrease unhealthy cholesterol, improve memory, reduce insomnia, helps calm stomach ulcers and promotes healthy eyes & skin. According to Ayurveda Cow Ghee balances Vata & Pitta, in addition to increasing Kapha. Well Known for its anti-microbial, antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties, Desi Ghee helps remove harmful free-radicals from our body. This is one of the reasons that Ghee has long been considered to carry anti-viral/anti-cancer properties. Desi Ghee is made up of Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA). MCFA enables direct absorption by the liver & the energy released helps burn other fats, aiding weight loss (St-Onge & Jones, 2008: Nokasa et al, 2009). A lot of herbal/Ayurvedic medicines use Desi Cow Ghee for its ability to optimise absorption by the body.

Desi Cow Ghee introduced early in a child’s development can boost the immune system. Being rich in Omega 3 fatty acids & Vitamins, Ghee is found to be beneficial in the creation of new brain synapses. Children require a much higher calorie intake per day. Ghee is a natural and healthy source of the required calories.

In infants, Ghee helps in weight gain, strengthens bones, improves their immunity, provides the essential minerals & nutrients & aids digestion.

Ghee also acts as a natural moisturiser.

Modern science shows that eating ghee increases the “bio-availability” of food. So consuming vegetables or other healthy foods along with ghee may help in optimal absorption of the nutrients. Superfoods are a perfect way to balance out any nutritional deficiencies in our diet. So add a little Ghee, a small drop goes a long way.
